Instructions for the Patient

How to obtain a drop of blood:

1.Wash hands with soap and warm water. Rinse and dry completely. If alcohol swabs are used, allow time to dry completely before obtaining blood sample.

2.Using the "prayer position", prick finger and gently squeeze to acquire a sufficient sample. Hands held in the "prayer position." Only areas on the finger that are not touching and can be seen when hands are in this position should be used for pricking and blood samples.





How to hold the device to obtain a sample.(penlett II)

3.Place blood onto target area of strip. DO NOT add a second drop or smear the sample.




How to operate the machines:




ACCU-CHEK EASY:


1.Install battery and insert chip with "easy key" facing upward.

2.After properly inserting battery and key, turn on glucometer.


3.Apply blood sample to test strip.

4. Place strip into glucometer with blood sample facing red dot.

5.Reading will appear in 60 seconds.

6. Discard used strip and lancet.




ONE TOUCH BASIC:

1. Insert battery and turn on meter.

2. Code the meter so that the codes on both the meter and test strips match. (See instruction booklet)

3. "Insert strip" will appear on the display.

4. Slide the test strip into test strip holder.

5. When "apply sample" appears, apply a drop of blood onto the test strip.

6. The meter will count down from 4 to 0, then a reading will appear.

a) If reading is within the range of 70-96, the display will read "OK".

b) If reading is not within range, "NOT OK" appears.

7. If "NOT OK" appears, go back to step 1 and repeat. If it appears a second time, clean meter and repeat test.

One Touch Visual Procedure

       

When checking the control, the device alternates between these readings. If the reading is not between the acceptable parameters listed in the booklet, follow the instructions for cleaning the device.

       

When all previous conditions have been satisfied, the display will alternate between these words until sample is inserted.



Glucometer Elite

1. Using the tip of one finger, pry battery compartment lid towards the word "open". Insert the two batteries.

2. Replace battery cover.

3. Insert check strip into the meter. Two "beeps" will sound and the meter will turn itself on.

4. The meter should display a reading within the parameters listed on the check strip label insert.

5. Remove check strip and store in plastic box.

6. The meter is now ready to be coded.

7. Open the new carton of test strips and remove the code strip.

8. Insert the code strip into the test slot until the top portion of the of the strip is completely hidden. The system will "beep" twice. The number appearing in the display must match the number appearing on the code strip.

9. Remove the code strip. The meter is now ready for use.






One Touch II

1. Insert Battery and Turn meter On.

2. "Code 7" will appear on the screen. When "Insert Strip" appears on the display, insert the test strip.

3. When "Apply Sample" appears on the screen, remove test strip from meter.

4. When "Insert Side 2" appears on the screen, flip test strip over and re-insert it.

5. The meter will automatically tell you if the machine is operating within the correct range.

6. The meter must now be "coded" to match the test strip pachage you will be using.

7. Turm meter on and wait for the "insert strip" signal.

8. When "insert strip" appears on display, insert test strip being careful not to touch the white test spot.

9. The numbers that appear on the display should match the range on the strip's package.

10. The machine is now ready for use.

11. Apply blood sample when "Apply sample" flashes on display.

12. Follow further instructions on the machine and read results on display.





HOW TO CARE FOR THE MONITORS

ACCU-CHEK EASY:

1.Clean outside of monitor any time it appears dirty.

2. Cleaning test strip guide:

  a) Remove guide by pressing down on grooves and pull toward yourself.

  b) Hold with red dot upward and allow white piece to swing down.

c) Swirl guide through warm soapy water untilblood is removed.

3. Rinse guide with warm water.

4. May disinfect with:

   a) 70% alcohol

   b) 1:10 ratio of household bleach with water

5. Rinse with water and allow to air-dry.

6. If blood remains, swirl in water again and rinse.

7. When clean, fold white piece into strip guide cover and replace into monitor.

ONE TOUCH BASIC:

1. Clean the meter and test strip holder once a week or when the test area looks dirty.

2. Slide the test strip holder toward you.

3. Remove the test strip holder to expose the test area.

4. Wash test strip holder with soap and water.

5. Dry completely with a soft cloth or tissue.

6. Rub test area with a cotton swab dampened with water. DO NOT USE alcohol, cleansers with ammonia or phenol, or glass cleansers.

ONE TOUCH II:

1. Observe test strip holder for any foreign particles. Remocve test strip holder, placing thumbs on white dots and sliding test strip holder towards you.

2. Once weekly and whenever required remove test strip holder and wash test strip holder with soap and water.

3. Dry with soft cloth.

4. Clean test area using soft cotton swab dampened with water.

5. Dry test area with soft cloth.

6. Never use caustic cleaners or chemicals to clean your glucose meter.

GLUCOMETER ELITE:

1. Do not allow meter, test strips, code strip, or check strip to be exposed to excessive heat, moisture cold, or dirt.

2. Avoid touching the ends of the test strips that will contact the machine.

3. Meter exterior can be cleaned with a damp facial tissue.

4. Store meter in case at all times.
